About Laura D. Heard

My background

Hello!  Welcome to VoteLauraHeard.com, my site for the Campaign to Elect Laura Heard for Judge of Probate Court No. 2 in 2018. After graduating from St. Mary's Law School (with distinction in the top 10% of my class in 1987), I have practiced probate law in San Antonio for 30 years. I have lived in San Antonio since the age of 2 and attended high school here.  I'm a wife and mother, married for 34 years with two adult children, and I'm a cancer survivor. I'm also a graduate of Baylor University, and I have been an adjunct professor of law classes at Wayland Baptist University. My passion is to help widows and orphans as instructed in Isaiah 1:17 --  "Seek Justice! Correct oppression. Defend the fatherless.  Plead the cause of the widow" --  and that is what Probate Court is all about: judging the division of property on death and the rights of the survivors, providing guardianship protection for orphans and the elderly who cannot care for themselves, and caring for the mentally ill.  I care about veterans, as those are the brave men and women who risked their lives for this country. I want to serve as a judge who is fair, compassionate, and wise.  I promise to treat all people who come into Probate Court with dignity and respect. Vote Laura Heard for Judge, Probate Court 2 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas in 2018!

My top issues

I am passionate about treating all participants in the courtroom with dignity and respect.  My vision is to create a special docket or volunteer guardianship program for people who need a guardian but have no appropriate family members.

My involvement

  • Volunteer for the Community Justice Program providing free wills to low-income veterans.
  • Volunteer monthly as a nursing home song leader
  • Active in my church and sing in the church choir
  • Guardian-ad-litem to many foster children in child protective suits.
